The mafia started exclusively as a Facebook group with a goal to reach out to as many Jiu Jitsu practitioners as possible around the world. The idea was simple. Provide a regulated environment where other blue belts can join and excahnge ideas and their progress. As well as their pains and frustrations.
We excluded white belts from the group and provided them with their own White Belt Mafia group. The reason behind this was to ensure all blue belts would have a pool of members with equal or higher understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. This will allow them to have useful feedback on every post.
Quickly, we realized many members were identifying themselves with the group and what it stands for. We decided that it was time to give the group its own image and identity. We created a logo for it and started to offer training gear, apparel, and other accessories.
As our group grew, we acquired more members into our admin team, some of which are very reputable black belts and started offering The “Technique of the Week” videos as well as mentorships through the group mentorship program.
